Abrasion resistance

Better abrasion resistance through covalent bonds

In contrast to the physical reinforcement of carbon black a chemical reinforcement is applied. By the aid of the silane the filler silica is linked chemically via covalent bonds to the polymer molecules of the rubber.

Thus, high energetic bonds are coupling the filler and the rubber. A simple chipping of the silica under application conditions is prevented. The abrasion resistance is improved. Especially in conjunction with highly dispersible silicas like Ultrasil® 7000 GR abrasion levels can be reached which comply with the stringent requirements of modern passenger car tire treads.
