Higher abrasion resistance extends the life cycle of tires

In contrast to the physical reinforcement of carbon black a chemical reinforcement is applied.

The silane links the silica via covalent bonds to the polymer molecules of the rubber. Thus, high energetic bonds are coupling the filler and the rubber. A simple chipping of the silica under application conditions is prevented. The abrasion resistance is improved.

Especially in conjunction with highly dispersible silicas like Ultrasil® 7000 GR abrasion levels can be reached which comply with the stringent requirements of modern passenger car tire treads.
